About Professor Town

We help lecturers, professors, adjuncts, and grad students navigate the academic job market with confidence.

Our Mission

The academic job market is brutally opaque. With 80–200+ applicants per opening, the odds are stacked against you—unless you know what hiring committees are actually looking for.

I'm Haaris Mian. I've been academic faculty at various institutions since 2016 and have served on numerous search committees. I've personally reviewed thousands of CV,s teaching statements, and interviewed hundreds of candidates.

Over time, I cracked the code on what actually works. Professor Town exists to share everything I've learned—so you don't have to figure it out alone, or take the several years it took me.

What Makes Us Different

Insider Knowledge

I've been academic faculty since 2016 and have served on numerous search committees. I still sit on hiring committees today—which means I see exactly what's working right now, not what worked five years ago.

Practical Approach

No fluff, no theory—just actionable strategies and real-world practice that gets results. We focus on what actually works in interviews.

Proven Results

Our average client reduces their time-to-offer by 30–60 days. Most report feeling significantly more confident after just one coaching session.

My Story

When I started navigating the academic job market, it felt like everyone else had a rulebook I'd never seen. The process was opaque. The feedback—when you got any—was vague. And the people who succeeded seemed to just know things that were never written down anywhere.

So I figured it out the hard way. And then I joined the other side of the table.

After years of serving on hiring committees, I saw the same pattern over and over: qualified candidates making fixable mistakes. Not because they weren't good enough, but because the system doesn't tell you what it's actually looking for.

I started coaching colleagues informally. Then grad students. The results were clear—with the right preparation and feedback, candidates started getting more interviews and more offers.

Professor Town was built to make that preparation accessible to everyone.

Why I Do This

I got into this because I genuinely believe that better educators change everything. A great professor doesn't just teach content; they make students want to learn. They're the reason someone switches majors, or stays in school, or pursues a career they never imagined for themselves.

Academia is changing. The role of the professor is evolving. But one thing stays constant: students deserve teachers who are passionate, prepared, and actually good at this. The world needs more of those people in front of classrooms—not stuck in adjunct limbo or giving up on academia entirely because the hiring process felt impossible to crack.

So I'm giving away the playbook. All of it. Because the candidates who care enough to prepare? Those are exactly the people who should be getting these jobs.
